MCT Beary Special Blog Hop!

Even though it's not quite Halloween, Emma has decided to give you all a "Beary Special Treat"!  This doesn't cause weight gain, but it will cause CUTENESS OVERLOAD!  Included in this hop, you will see a "Beary Special" stamp set that was designed by Emma for this special hop!  Also joining us for this hop are 5 VERY TALENTED "Guest Designers"!  So, you should have arrived here from Jeanne's blog, but if you happened upon here by chance, you'll want to head over to Emma's blog to take this from the beginning!

I used the new Cricut Teddy Bear Parade cartridge for my card today.  It's perfect paired with Emma's new Beary Special Thoughts stamp set!  My card base is cut at 5" from the Cricut Birthday Bash cartridge.  I cut the coordinating square layer, along with another square 1/4" larger and sewed them together.

The cute bear is cut at 3 3/4".  I cut the face mask twice, so that I could put a patterned paper on top of the solid colored straps.  I also used a Peachy Keen stamp for the eyes instead of the ones that come with the cartridge.  The top right corner of my card looked a little bare, so I cut some more of the heart layers, at 6".

I made this card to give to a good friend of mine a couple of days ago, before she was heading in to have a liver biopsy.  The sentiment from Beary Special Thoughts was exactly what I wanted to say to her.  Here is a look at the entire adorable stamp set:

Collecting Cards for Cancer Patients

I was recently contacted by Card Care Connection, an organization that collects homemade cards to send to cancer patients upon request by family and friends.  I don't know many people whose lives have not been touched by cancer in some way.  I have 2 aunts who are breast cancer survivors, have lost a dear cousin to breast cancer, and was a caregiver for my ex-boyfriend when he went through chemo, radiation, and later a stem cell transplant for Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  I've seen the suffering first hand and know how a simple gesture such as receiving a handmade card from a stranger could bring up one's spirits.

I definitely want to help out by making some cards and spreading the word to all of you, so that you can get involved too.  How many of us have a stash of cards that could be put to some good use?

They are looking for A2 size cards that are blank inside, so I made one with cute koala from the new Cricut Create a Critter 2 cartridge, cut at 3".  I added a little cardstock button to the heart.  I didn't want to use a real button, as that would make the card bulky for mailing.

The sentiments they are looking for are not "get well" or religious sentiments.  They would like sentiments that are uplifting and general in nature.  I found this cute sentiment on My Creative Time's Just a Little Note to Say stamp set.  There are lots of great sentiments on many My Creative Time stamp sets that will be perfect for these cards.  I plan to make a bunch more over the next couple of weeks and then mail them off.  If you would like to get involved, check out the guidelines here.  You might already have a bunch of cards that are perfect to make somebody's day!

Also, below is a news story about Card Care Connection that aired on St. Louis channel 5 KSDK.

Baby Girl Card

One of my friends just had her third baby!  I found this cute card base to make for her in the Silhouette online store.  The cut is just what I made with the kraft paper, but I cut it again with the letters blacked out to get an inside layer.

To decorate the front, I cut out three onesies at 6" from the Cricut Straight From the Nest cartridge.  I know, they don't look 6" tall, but they come from a cut that includes a clothesline.  The banner string is from Papertrey Ink's Banner Builder stamp set.

Here's a close up of the cute "block" letters.  Aren't they adorable?

I trimmed down the inside layer a bit before adhering it down.  I didn't want it on the fold of the card; that would make the card too difficult to close.  On the inside I stamped one of my favorite baby sentiments from My Creative Time's All Star Baby stamp set!

Quilted Autumn Greetings

For some reason this weekend I got it in my mind to make a quilt design on a card, so I googled "quilt" and came across a picture of a friendship quilt square.  It was very easy to replicate with paper.  I cut a cream card base at 4 1/4" square and a green gingham layer at 4" square.  I then cut nine 1 1/4" squares:  1 flower pattern, 4 of the orange pattern, and 4 of the teal pattern.  I cut the orange and teal squares at a diagonal to make triangles, and then I was able to piece together my "quilt."

The sweet little leaf and greeting were made with My Creative Time's Piles of Smiles stamp and die set.  I used one of the Teeny Tag Greetings dies for the sentiment.

Today is "Show Me Your Technique" on My Creative Time!  Three of my very talented design team sisters have fun tutorials to share with you.  Check it out!
