MCT Inspiration Wednesday

It's Inspiration Wednesday with My Creative Time and today I have a fun Sweet 16 card that I made for my niece.  I was inspired to use this 3d Stand Up Card cut by Lori Whitlock from the Silhouette Online Store, after seeing the card that my design team sister Stacey shared on her blog yesterday.  I also found a pretty photo online that I used for my color inspiration.

I altered the cut quite a bit so that I could use lots of My Creative Time dies with it.  I particularly wanted to use my favorite bike from the Way to Go stamp and die set.

The "sweet" sentiment was made by masking off part of a sentiment from Just a Little Note to Say and stamped on a banner made with one of the dies from Vintage Stitched Label Dies.

To make the cake, I took the smaller of the Square Stitched Goody Dies and ran it through my Vagabond a couple of times to make it even smaller.  For the frosting, I cut a little scrap of pink cardstock with one of the borders dies from the Fun Stitched Edges and then used the same die from Square Stitched Goody Dies to get it down to the size I wanted.  The process is a little complicated to explain; maybe I'll make a video of it someday!

The balloons were made with dies from the Stitched Party Dies, and I stamped the with numbers from Circle Font before tying them to the handlebars with some hemp.

Here's a look at the card from the side.  You can see it folds easily for mailing.

Sympathy Trees

The tree images in Papertrey Ink's Through the Trees stamp set seem to show up in a lot of my sympathy cards.  For this set of cards I stamped the image of the three trees with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

Then I used painter's tape to tape a border around the edge of my cardstock.  For each card I chose three different colors of Tim Holtz Mini Distress Inks.  I stamped some of each ink onto my craft mat, added some water with my paint brush, and then painted over the embossed tree images, blending the colors together.

Once the watercolor was dry, I stamped the sentiment, which is from My Creative Time's Many Greetings stamp set.  It's also my go to sentiment for a sympathy cards.

MCT Whatever Wednesday

It's Whatever Wednesday with My Creative Time - a day to pull out your MCT stamps and dies and just make whatever you want!  I needed to make a thank you note for my sister, and since she has bowls and jars of shells all over her house during the summer, this idea came to me.

My kraft card base is 3 3/4" x 4 1/4", and the striped layer, from Fancy Pants' Beach Bum collection, is cut at 3 1/2" x 4 1/4".  I trimmed the cream layer with one of the dies from MCT's Fun Stitched Edges Dies.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tag Greetings.

I die cut the shells and sea stars from Surf's Up out of white cardstock and then inked them up using different Tim Holtz distress inks.  I just love the Stitched Chunky Jar Dies, and the bigger jar was perfect for this card, cut out of clear cardstock.  By keeping one sea star out of the jar, I was able to glue down that corner of the jar, along with the top that is under the lid.  That was enough glue to keep the clear cardstock down, and it left no visible glue.
